At iShine Coatings Group, we are committed to delivering only the highest quality products for yacht owners and professionals. But ensuring top-tier performance doesn’t happen by chance—it requires rigorous testing, expert collaboration, and continuous refinement. This is why we requested a testing by, in our opinion, the best yacht coatings manufacturer with Alexseal Yacht Coatings, a globally recognized leader in marine coatings, to test our products.

In this blog post, we’ll take you through the step process our products underwent. The target of the testing was to identify the influence and effect of our two most popular water-based products: the iShine nº4 Polymer Sealant & the iShine nº5 Protective Nanotechnolgy Topcoat, along with our iShine iCeramic Light and iShine iCeramic Advanced ceramic coating. All products were applied on Alexseal Premium Topcoat 501 and Acrylic Topcoat X to undergo stress tests in terms of gloss and color changes under artificial weathering (UV & humidity).

These efforts ensure that our coatings offer unparalleled protection and performance. We believe in building expertise to inspire confidence—and this is how we do it.

Choosing the Industry Experts: Why Alexseal Yacht Coatings?

We are proud to work with Alexseal Yacht Coatings, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the marine coatings industry. Known for their stringent testing procedures and technological advancements, Alexseal provides the ideal environment to assess and test our iShine products. Their focus on long-lasting protection and aesthetics perfectly aligns with our mission to deliver coatings that stand the test of time.

Choosing a leader in marine coatings means that our customers can trust our products, and vice versa for Alexseal, having us, iShine, been present in the yachting industry for over 20 years, proving the service and retailing the iShine products in chandleries such as Pinmar Yacht Supply, among many others.

The Testing Process: Pushing Products to the Limit

Ensuring the durability and effectiveness of our products always starts with comprehensive laboratory testing, followed by field trials in real-world conditions. These tests are designed to mimic the extreme environments yachts face—whether at sea or docked under the sun.

In our tests our products are subjected to:

  • Saltwater immersion to test corrosion resistance.
  • UV exposure to evaluate gloss retention and color stability under harsh sunlight.
  • Chemical resistance tests to ensure our coatings withstand oils, cleaners, and environmental contaminants.
  • Adhesion tests to verify long-lasting bonding to various surfaces, from gelcoat to metal.
  • Abrasion tests to simulate the impact of cleaning and general wear-and-tear over time.

Additionally, iShine’s nº4 Polymer Sealant and nº5 Protective Nanotechnolgy Topcoat have been placed in accelerated weathering chambers (for 2000h of artificial weathering) by Alexseal. This procedure simulates years of exposure in just a few weeks.

Continuous Improvement: The Power of Feedback

Our trust in our products isn’t just about passing the tests, it’s about learning and evolving. The insights gained during testing allow us to continuously refine our formulations, delivering products that are always at the cutting edge of performance.

For example, the feedback from adhesion and durability tests led to subtle but significant improvements in our iShine nº4 polymer sealant, the test samples remaining stable. Similarly, real-world trials on yachts helped us fine-tune our ceramic coatings for enhanced hydrophobicity, ensuring water beads effortlessly and minimizes streaks and stains. They showed absolutely no negative impact over the reference. The panels treated with iCeramic light (3μm) and iCeramic Advanced (10μm) behave similarly to the untreated reference panels.

This cycle of testing, learning, and improving reflects our unwavering dedication to providing the best possible solutions for our customers.
